I figured that I would create a quick resource center for those interested in gaming on Linux. I will add to this (time permitting) as to make it more complete...

Recommended Linux Distributions:
#1: Ubuntu 14.04 <-- Allows for easier installation/use of 3rd party software such as Mangler (Ventrilo client), as well as easier installation alongside Windows installations. While requiring more tweaking and setup than SteamOS, it is more simple than setting up a Windows installation, allows for increased customization/tweaking,  and often gives a performance boost over Windows. (http://www.ubuntu.com/) (FREE)

#2: SteamOS <-- It will be awesome, someday. Until then I recommend using Ubuntu. (http://store.steampowered ... om/steamos/download) (FREE)

#3: Fedora <-- The bleeding edge of new code/performance, and requires much more skill. Use at your own risk. (Fedoraproject.org) (FREE)

Distrowatch: Other sources of Linux distributions. (http://distrowatch.com/)

Software Resources:

Mangler: An opensource Linux Ventrilo compatible voip client.
(http://www.mangler.org/) (FREE)

Ubuntu (Steam) Login Addon: Allows you to login directly to Steam "Big-Picture" mode while using Ubuntu. This allows for increased performance as less resources are used creating a desktop. (http://www.omgubuntu.co.u ... ture-mode-in-ubuntu) or (http://askubuntu.com/ques ... -standalone-session) (FREE)

Wine: "Wine is not (an) emulator", allows the running of Windows software/games on Linux. Sometimes the performance is better than Windows performance, but more often it is a compromise between performance and stability. (https://www.winehq.org/) (FREE)

Playonlinux: Software based on Wine that allows for easier installation of games/software, for gaming purposes recommended over Wine alone. (https://www.playonlinux.c ... om) (FREE)

Crossover Linux: Premium refined version of Wine that includes formal tech-support. Purchasing supports the Wine project. (https://www.codeweavers.c ... om/products/)

Native Linux Games:

Yeah, they look very very cool, I hope that they pave the way for true integration of games into the living room as apposed to consoles...
